In "Lettischen Sozialistische Sowjet-Republik" (by Ilmar Iwert, 1977, page 9) we read:
"In den Tagen der Revolution von 1905 kämpften russische und lettische Proletarier gemeinsam auf den Barrikaden. "Während der Revolution", schrieb W.I. Lenin, "haben das lettische Proletariat und die lettische Sozialdemokratie einen der ersten und bedeutensten Plätze im Kampf gegen die Selbstherrschaft und alle Kräfte der alten Ordnung eingenommen... Die lettische Arbeiterpartei war einer der Vortrupps der russischen Sozialdemokratiewährend der Revolution und stand auch in der schweren Zeit der Konterrevolution vorn."..."

Castle of Riga on the Komsomol Krastmala

On the quay of the Daugava, the Komsomol Krastmala, the Castle of Riga is an important building. On the detailed map of the center is stated in the explications:
"21 Castle of Riga, 14th - 20th century (now Museum and pioneer-palace), Pioneer-square, 3 (detailed map)".

In this castle the magister of the Livonian Order resided until in the 16e century. Later it became the residence of the governers of Riga and then of the 'president of bourgeois Latvia' as called in the travelguide of Debrer (1982).
Postal stationery with the castle, issued 30-10-1985:
In 1330 the building started. The casle is placed somewhat outside the center and outside the city walls, and with his own fortifications. The knights of the Order had many times conflicts with the bisshop of Riga and the citizens. The old castle of Riga, located in the city-center is even in 1297 destroyed by the inhabitants of Riga ans the new castle is once - in 1484- desroyed by the bisshop.

The castle of Riga is now in Soviet time also used as 'Pioneer-palace', as indicated on the postal stationery here. Issued 16-10-1986.
In the travelguide by Debrer, 1982 ( p. 39):
"In 1941 the Soviet Government of Latvia decided to give part of the castle building over to the children of the city, and a Pioneers' and Schoolchildren's Palace was set up in it."

On the detailed map we see at the bottom the market-halls, resembling hangars, and that they are. During World War I thre were zeppelins stationed in Wainoden and the hangars are used again in Riga in 1926 for building these market halls. Something south-east the high building is the Academie of Sciences, also pictured on a postal stationery, issued 12-1-1971

Original print size of this image: 16,061 x 11,514 cm (is something more as the postal item)

The building, in 1958 build in 'pastry-cook-style', was also called 'Stalin's birthdaycake' . Another local name was 'the Kremlin'.
The Soviet rule pretended to give more attention to science. "Im bürgerlichen Lettland war der wissenschaftlichen Forschung wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt worden" (from: Lettischen Sozialistische Sowjet-Republik, 1977, p. 24).

Also many old churches in the old city you can find back on postal stationeries:
